Net billing and batteries

Net metering ended for new connections on 9 February 2026. These are the questions we hear most since then.

What changed on 9 February 2026?

NEPRA replaced net metering with net billing for new solar connections. Units you send to the grid are now bought at Rs 8.13 each, while units you take from FESCO still cost about Rs 60 to 65. Before the change, exported units were swapped one for one against your bill.

Licences that were valid on 9 February 2026 keep the old arrangement for the rest of their term. The new rules apply to connections approved after that date. If you are not sure which applies to you, send us a photo of your bill on WhatsApp.

Yes, when the system is sized for your own use. A unit you use yourself saves around Rs 60 to 65, while a unit you export earns Rs 8.13. That is why we size systems around your daytime and evening load and add batteries to store what would otherwise be exported. See our hybrid solar systems.

It depends on which appliances must run at night or during load shedding, and for how many hours. Send us your bill and a list of what must stay on, and we will size the battery for you.

Usually, yes. Some on-grid inverters have to be replaced with a hybrid inverter; others can work alongside a separate battery inverter. Send us your inverter brand and model and we will tell you which applies.

Under net billing, FESCO buys your extra units at Rs 8.13 each and credits them on your bill. A battery lets you keep that power for the evening instead, when it is worth far more to you.

Yes. Net billing applications are submitted by the installer, so we prepare and submit yours.

Yes. After-sales support is free. It covers:

  • Inspection and troubleshooting of your system
  • Technical help with system performance and operation
  • Guidance on using and maintaining the system
  • Coordinating warranty support for equipment under the manufacturer’s warranty, where it applies

Whether a repair is free depends on the product warranty and on whether the fault came from our installation or from how the system was used. Routine maintenance such as panel cleaning, upgrades and adding batteries later are charged separately.
